VINOTHEK | ARCHVIZ AS A CRAFT, NOT A TOOL
Let me repeat that again: 3D as a craft, not a tool. Very important statement in the age of Machine Learning. Real value isn’t found in a shortcut. Our Vienna wine bar project is a testament to 3D as a craft, where lighting, composition and hand-crafted materials create a soul that a prompt simply cannot replicate.

MADCHAMO exists in what I like to call the post-software generation. Meaning: the specific software matters far less than the final craft. What truly counts is whether the work is thoughtfully made and visually honest.
If you’ve been providing the same service the same way for years and it worked well, it’s only natural to resist change. But that’s how you end up stuck in a time capsule while the world moves forward without you. You miss the train, staying inside a comfortable bubble, unaware that the landscape has already shifted.

Blocking is probably the most underrated and overlooked part of the process.
Many artists just want to see the result instantly, skipping crucial steps along the way.
This phase helps build the scale and overall feeling of the space we are creating. MADCHAMO even spends time modeling structures and geometries that won’t necessarily be visible in the final render, applying the same level of attention to detail. Why? Because it adds context, creates indirect shadows and ultimately makes the scene come alive and feel real.
Afterwards, the details start piling up, gradually enhancing the blocking model. The scene is revisited, refined, and further detailed according to the project draft and client feedback. At MADCHAMO, the blocking phase is important enough that we often share clay renders with the client as a first update, placing the design into context using neutral lighting.

A significant amount of time and effort is invested in this phase, there is no rush. Jumping too early into materials or secondary elements is avoided entirely. Lighting is what truly makes or breaks a render, and at MADCHAMO this stage is given the time it deserves. If something feels off, the process steps back into modeling and scene refinement rather than falling into the rabbit hole of materials while the lighting is still unresolved.

The fun part starts. The space really feels real only when you treat every simple item or piece of furniture like a hero asset. Literally take every item and give it the attention it deserves.

Model and refine. Send constant updates to the client. Glass material is considered neutral, but it works to enhance the light, just like this ceiling fixture. It is the heart of the space. Start simple and evolve from there.

Then we start applying the materials one by one to every asset and see how they behave in our scene.
If it’s not behaving as it should, then go back to your texturing software (MADCHAMO uses InstaMAT) and make adjustments. Don’t just call it done; go back and refine. Test renders, variants, add dust, wear, and tear. Then, if everything ticks just right, you move to the next asset.

Every camera placement is chosen carefully. We use Blender as our main DCC because we support innovation and the Open-Source movement. It’s part of MADCHAMO’s DNA.

More is actually less. To deliver just three or four final renders, MADCHAMO explores twenty or more angles, leaving no stone unturned even at the cost of significant render time. We believe in placing every trial on a digital canvas for a cold review before turning the computer off for the night, as a good sleep usually provides a much-needed perspective the following day. This stage is about pure, uncurated exploration, ensuring the space is thoroughly documented and every potential story is tested before we begin the ruthless process of elimination.

Everything visible in our 3D viewport serves a dual purpose: it must impress us before it ever reaches the client. We make it a point to share raw Blender screenshots throughout the creation process, not just as status updates, but as a testimony to the craft—a clear proof that no cheap tricks were used and every detail was modeled properly from the ground up. This transparency ensures that the final result isn’t just an image, but a verified digital construction where every asset has earned its place through manual labor and technical precision.

Atmosphere is the ultimate closer. It is what truly sells a digital space. What you are seeing in these final frames are not the polished end results, but rather a glimpse into our relentless Lookdev process, the exhaustive internal QA phase where we stress-test every shadow and highlight. We believe in showing the work behind the work because transparency is a fundamental pillar of our craft. Every iteration is a deliberate, calculated step toward that final atmospheric “click” where every element aligns perfectly, serving as a constant reminder that a great image is never an accident, but the result of a disciplined search for perfection.
To witness the finished project in its full glory, we invite you to explore our website and discover it within our portfolio. Providing a direct link would have been far too easy. We prefer to let you navigate the MADCHAMO ecosystem naturally, as this studio functions much like a living, evolving organism. Plenty of exciting new projects are currently underway, waiting for the right moment to be declassified. We hope you enjoyed this deep dive into our workflow and principles and perhaps even learned a new thing or two along the way. If you have a vision that demands this level of obsession, reach out. We take care of the rest. #NoAI
