3DISE CONFERENCE

Simply staying in a bat cave and cooking up something big is not enough. Sometimes, you need to share it, discuss it with like-minded people.

3DISE is a gathering point for industry leaders, experts and enthusiasts working with photogrammetry, laser scanning, surveying, Gaussian Splatting and many other forms of reality capture.

After its successful debut in 2025, MADCHAMO finally decided to leave the bat-cave and take part in larger industry events like this one.

Attending the conference was made possible with the help of Michal Gula, one of the founders behind 3DISE.

There was a lot of new tech on display, mainly tailored for scan artists and the reality capture industry. As a 3D artist, gaining knowledge in the scanning field is becoming more and more important, especially now when scan-based assets are increasingly used across game and film productions.

For me, this was more about testing the waters. Exchanging opinions, gathering impressions and hearing different perspectives regarding MADPHORM.

The funny part is that many people confirmed the same thing over and over again: what I am building is absolutely worth the trouble. But hearing this directly from industry experts and watching their eyebrows slowly raise once they understood the actual scale and direction of the project… that gives you the kind of motivation needed to keep pushing forward.

One particular highlight for MADCHAMO was the fact that the Kefermarkt altar and the Gotikstrasse project was presented by Christopher Schindelar, who was part of the initial phase of the project, setting up the production pipeline.

Christoph was instrumental during the initial phase of these projects, helping us dial in the production pipeline that defines how we handle complex data today.

For the Kefermarkt church, I was responsible for capturing the last 2 sections of the altar and providing equipment support for the scan.

It was a great experience to see the public’s reaction to the project reveal and to dive into those deep backstage discussions.

Its another proof that Cultural Heritage or actually, assets that have a story behind them are much more valuable than initially thought.

A very cool part of this conference is that you get to connect with a lot of experts in the industry and get real feedback on your projects or just exchange ideas and workflows.

For example, for the Gotikstrasse Team, Christoph Schindelar, the GOAT in 3D scanning, was met at this conference last year in 2025 edition, then the rest is history.

We started working together and he developed a pipeline strategy and workflow for the Gotikstrasse project, enabling MADCHAMO and the team to continue finishing this huge scanning project.

There were a lot of interesting presentations, but one that really stood out in terms of not only the topic but also because of the quality of the work and presentation itself. Archeology is a really the best field where scanning

Photogrammetry was originally developed for topographical mapping and military surveying, but the technology matured and archaeologists quickly recognized its value for preserving unmovable ruins and excavation contexts.

Luk van Goor, from Restauratieatelier Restaura, really took things to the next level. He merged laser scans, photogrammetry, and stereo data into a seamless hybrid workflow, overlaying them within his own custom app. It was impressive to see someone not just using the tools, but building their own to bridge the gap between different data sets.

A level of technical depth we deeply respect at MADCHAMO.

Beyond the tech, Luk ended his talk with a sincere motivational message for those just starting out.

When I caught up with him afterward, he was incredibly open, even pulling out his laptop to walk me through the “how” behind his scans and presentation. In an industry facing tough times, passionate people like him bring much-needed light to the room. Featuring his work here is our way of acknowledging both his mastery and the human side of the craft.

Another very nice project presentation was by Bert Azizoglu | CEO NUBIGON.

Nubigon is a 3D rendering software for showcasing your Reality Capture & Scan-to-BIM projects. The highlight is that you can combine 3DGS data within your scan-to-BIM, adding a new layer of information that can be nicely showcased inside of NUBIGON.

The sad part is that BIM workflow is not new, not at all. Actually it has been here for many many years, but the adoption of it was very slow and many don’t even understand what actually BIM means, beside the Building Information Model. We all know that. I dare to say that the majority of architectural and construction studios model their projects using BIM tools, but not at a high BIM standard, just enough in order for them to extract 2D PDF information out of them.

But it’s much more than that and this article is not about explaining what BIM is, but MADCHAMO hopes that one day, it will become the standard for all construction projects. Sadly, we still have to wait.

To speed up the adoption and showcase what is possible, MADCHAMO is cooking something really big regarding BIM, but currently kept under wraps

Sometimes even if the technology and possibilities are here, people like to work harder and not smarter.

3DISE couldn’t have been possible without Michal Gula and his immense support and work for the 3D Artists and scanning community.

Kudos!

WELL, THAT’s ABOUT IT

There is a lot more about this wonderful conference that I can cover in this small new/article. Best is to experience it yourself.

Thank you for reading this and I hope you got some insight and useful information. I will end it with a photo of the team, because beer goes hand-in-hand with scanning.

See ya on the next one!
