Lucca Column
This project showcases a detailed photogrammetry of a classical column from the historic town of Lucca, Italy. The project involved various stages from scanning to texturing, and rendering. Below are the highlights of the process. The column is a fine example of classical architecture, featuring intricate carvings and a weathered stone texture.

Project Overview
This Italian column is part of an ongoing initiative to build a European platform of photogrammetry-based assets with a strong focus on cultural authenticity and heritage. And honestly, deciding to scan a column in Italy sounds easy until you realize there are thousands of them. Choosing just one becomes a project of its own.
The capture was done with a Nikon Z6II and processed using RealityScan, with textures refined in InstaMAT.
Challenges
One unexpected challenge was the location itself, the plaza was fairly crowded, and a lot of people kept wandering by, curious (and slightly confused) about why someone was taking thousands of photos of “just a column.”
